Apple sell one million videos

So it appears the world is ready for videos on iPods:

“Selling one million videos in less than 20 days strongly suggests there is a market for legal video downloads,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “Our next challenge is to broaden our content offerings, so that customers can enjoy watching more videos on their computers and new iPods.”

Steve Jobs (Of Apple) Quotes

"I wish him the best, I really do. I just think he and Microsoft are a bit narrow. He'd be a broader guy if he had dropped acid once or gone off to an ashram when he was younger."

Tidy. Play it.

Forgot to Mention We Got a Mac Mini

Macmini I might as well make a brief comment about it. We got one of the little blighters because our desktop and laptop conked out in the same couple of weeks. We could still access the hard drive of the laptop (Apple iBook), so we transferred everything over to the Mac Mini. Just want to mention how slick this procedure was; basically it's all taken care of by a kind of start-up wizard thing when you first boot the new Mac. Anyway, the Mac Mini hooked up to all our existing peripherals (LCD, keyboard, mouse, printer) without a hitch and it just plain rocks. Except... you only get two USB ports! It's completely insane but probably a ploy to get you to buy Apple's bluetooth keyboard and mouse. It's only a few quid for a USB multiplier hub gizmo though, so it's no biggie. In summary then... sunny.

Andy Murray Loses Out to Classy Gonzalez in Basel/Basle

Fernando Gonzalez emerged the victor 6-4 3-6 6-1. He showed Murray what it takes to be a top-20 player and Andy still has some way to go yet. This defeat marks the end of a wonderful season for Andy.

Andy Murray Scrapes Past Berdych In Basel/Basle

Murray wins again: 6-4 2-6 6-4. There's something very spooky about the way he digs out these victories; perhaps he could be something special. Tomorrow, though, he faces the Chilean, Fernando Gonzalez, at 7pm (British time) again. This might well be too much for our Andy; the guy's been lingering in the top 20 for some time now.

Andy Murray Defeats Henman at Basel/Basle

Yesterday Andy Murray emerged victorious from a battle with his childhood hero, Tim Henman. Andy applied the pressure early and Tim pretty much crumbled in the first set; he looked nervous and made numerous unforced errors. The rest of the match was a proper scrap though, with Andy finally turning the screw in the deciding tiebreaker.
Murray, ranked 70, will face Tomas Berdych today at 7pm British time. Berdych is a 20-year-old Czech who was on the verge of breaking into the top 30 back in August, but has since dropped back to 52.

Bad-boy Crucifix iPod Shuffle

Hmmm, maybe I should get this replacement lanyard for iPod Shuffle. Turns it into a badass bling crucifix thingy.

Google Base Coming Soon

Sounds interesting. Google Base was sort of live.

Looks like it's gonna be online storage (searchable, of course) for anything and everything that you possess (but not the kitchen sink). So you upload photos, videos, documents, recipes(?!) and all that jazz. There is also the ability to upload classified ads (for accommodation, 2nd-hand items, etc) and a payment system hooked in, so venturing into eBay and craigslist territory.

Obviously this kind of thing is already available, but this is cool cos it's Google baby! Actually, they are rapidly becoming uncool, what with them being valued at more than $100 billion and all the evil sh*t that comes with that.

Classic Books are Rubbish

Okay so Time Magazine recently did a list of the top 100 books of the last eighty years or so. Now here's a selection of Amazon reviews from customers who thought the "classic" book just plain sucked.

I'm currently reading Kerouac's On The Road, so here's the one for that:

"This book gets my nomination for the most overrated book in American Literature. It is trite, saccharine and false. The themes and insights it contains are not even good enough to be third rate. Moreover, as a prose stylist, Kerouac was probably fourth rate. In short, I despise this piece of [garbage] and would advise all of its hipster doofus fans to lose the tie-dye clothes and throw away their bongs. Maybe then they will read something good for a change."

Currently Playing on ze iPod

I've got the following on rotation at the mo:

» Kano - Home Sweet Home

» Franz Ferdinand - You Could Have It So Much Better

» Elbow - Leaders Of The Free World

These three are doing it for me big time. Satisfying every facet of my musical taste; from bad-boy gangsta toughness, to middle-of-the road poetic brilliance.

Top tracks are Kano's Reload, Franz's This Boy and Elbow's Mexican Standoff.

Andy Murray Back In Action At Basel/Basle... Against Henman!

The draw for the Davidoff Swiss Indoors tournament has been made and it sees Andy Murray pitted against Henman in the first round! Will this match be the handing-over-of-the-baton? Or will the Hen-man show the young upstart who's boss?

They play on Wednesday.

Religion Debate

Some may find this article denouncing religion pretty insulting or downright offensive. I found it to be an interesting read; it's pretty intelligently written, as are the comments beneath it.

How To Wake Up And Not Feel Like Death

An interesting article on what makes for a tolerable wake-up. We do this sort of thing already though and I can tell you that I feel like sh*t right now.

Catching Up

You're gonna find this hard to believe, (because you regard me as a trendy bastard with his finger on the pulse) but I saw my first episode of Family Guy (and American Dad) tonight. They are indeed positively f*cking hilarious. Well done to the rest of the you for discovering this, like, eight years ago or something.

Elbow - Leaders of the Free World

Elbow - Leaders Of The Free WorldJust acquired this album. Think I'm gonna like it.

A Scanner Darkly - Film Adaptation

Just finished reading the book (I highly recommend it) and I'm amazed to see it's coming to cinema screens next year. Not only that, but it has a good bunch of people in it and the trailer looks - for want of a better word - sweet! You gotta hit that trailer link to witness the trippy animation effect they've used...

Better Blogging with Flock

My blog posts should be flowing freely and easily now I've got Flock (it's a browser).

New iPod (with video)

Witness the evolution of the revolution. First it played songs. Then photos. Then podcasts. Now iPod plays video, changing the way you experience your music and more.

Apple - iPod

I can't quite imagine holding it still in front of my eyes for half an hour, can you? But naturally I still want one. I think the world is ready for it now.

Possible Family History - And Squirrels

Playing Me

If a film were made about my life, who would play me? Well, as we all know, Derek Waring did a fine job in that superb episode of Public Eye, "Works with Chess, Not with Life"...

Bush Speak Bad

Good lord, I've stumbled across something spectacularly funny.

Million Dollar Homepage

The guy who made this is not a genius, but he had a quirky idea and executed it beautifully. He's made a quarter of a million dollars in about 40 days. And he'll certainly hit the cool mill in the not-too-distant future.

Paintings

The paintings mentioned in the previous post will be delayed due to a lack of paint. And brushes. And a canvas.
