Eco-Friendly Ideas: Plastic Bags

What time is it? It's eco time.

As a general rule, plastic bags are bad, I gather. So here are a couple of things I've been trying lately:

  • When you get home with a plastic carrier bag and empty it, don't shove it in the bin; store it by stuffing it inside previously stored plastic bags and then use it for lining paper bins and stuff.
  • If you're buying a handful (literally) of things from a supermarket/shop/whatever, just stop and think, "Do I really need a plastic carrier bag?" The other options are: carry items in hand; put items in a bag you're already carrying; put items in pockets; put items in undergarments. If possible, tell the checkout person, "Don't bag those items dude!"

Hey smart guy, if you have any other ideas, make a comment.

Using unnecessary plastic bags is terminally unhip. It's the 21'st century equivalent of consumer halitosis. You heard it here first. De Parvis Grandis Acervus Erit (That applies to the idea, consumer behavioural patterns AND Plastic Bags)

Thank God that you told us all this! I mean it is a breath-taking development in environmental friendly practices.

Some supermarkets will now recycle old plastic bags - look out for the recycling points, usually inside the larger stores. For some reason they tend to make it very difficult to shove the bags inside though.

Oh, another thing is that the Co-op carrier bags are usually biodegradeable, so you can feel slightly less guilty about throwing those away.
